I never really liked them, either, but for the opposite reason; because I'm religious, and they turned their backs on God.
I love the work. The details are vague enough to give a blurry in-motion effect, and Garl's outstretched hand implies that he lost the same way anyone playing Demon's Souls lost- he messed up. And his opponent was quick enough to capitalize on it.
Best boss is still Storm King though, even if I respect Garl's prowess.
Great to hear that I was drawn to the dragon bone smasher because it sounds so much like the Dragon Slayer from Berserk(epic manga btw). Definitely one of my favourite weapons from the game, but Storm Ruler is the coolest.
I must confess, I haven't personally played either game, but love the setting, story, design, basically everything about them. As a result I've watched more or less the entire playthroughs of both games on Youtube and scoured their wikis as well. It was good.
I've got two Dark Souls works so far in my gallery, might add more if I see something suitably inspiring:
Oh and your two Dark Souls works are very good too! Did you see the Boss "Dragon Slayer Orstein" from Dark Souls? Is Absolutely Epic, I want to make a drawing of him but I'm not that good to drawing this xd Here you have a pic [link]
I've seen all the bosses, Ornstein looks cool but he's not my favourite, he always seemed to me like a primadonna double act with Smough. Still, Dark Souls is full of cool characters like Shiva from the East and Lautrec, among others. Too many to list!
Oh, weird, I don't know any person that likes these games before playing it, but do you want to play them? I really recommend you them. If you can't because you don't have ps3 or xbox360, let me tell you on August 24, Dark Souls will be able for PC . If you pc can run it, I demand you to play it >:C
I guess it's a personal quirk, as I like scouting out games before playing them and am usually fine with just reading about the settings and stuff. It's a different perspective, all things considered.
I don't have a console so games that don't have PC ports are no-go for me. Dark Souls for the PC is GREAT news though, thanks so much for the heads up! I'll probably get it. The Artorias DLC sounds good as well. My PC ought to be able to run it, I'm more worried about getting hoarse from all the screams of frustration that will probably occur when playing that game. I hope the port isn't crappy like RE4's.
There's always hope. The last console port I played on the PC was RE4. Even with hi-res texture packs it looked like crap. At least that was compensated by the modding capability. I doubt they'd let you make your own weapons and armour (like in Oblivion etc) for Dark Souls PC, although that would be incredibly awesome.
